Cold Friday night brought us to this restaurant, where there weren't too many people inside but still in an area close to other pubs/bars. Menu is large (albeit more expensive than I'd like) with many Chinese favorites.

Noticed on the menu that there's an automatic 10% gratuity (even though the water is self serve). Plowed ahead anyway and ordered the Stir Fried Chicken (£12.80) - a mix of chicken, noodles, broccoli, peppers, and various other vegetables. A little on the oily side yet not too hefty. Overall a pretty basic meal that's pricey for what it was.

Service here is only okay; food came out fast but the waiter was a bit surly. If not picky, then a fine enough spot for a meal.

Noodle soup served lukewarm - LUKEWARM PEOPLE!
    Pouty waitresses.
    Self-serve water.
    Mandatory 10% service charge.
    Armpit-smelling noodle dish.

No thanks. Never again. Don't be fooled by the crowd like I was!

I've heard great things about this place but sadly, I do not think it was up to the hype it received. Personally, I think it's just a simple Chinese noodle restaurant that was significantly under staffed.

My friend and I walked in and were requested to seat ourselves. We ordered the house soup noodle with lamb. This was very delicious - and would absolutely recommend noodle soup lovers to try it. We also ordered some porkbelly (the name escapes me right now), but it was significantly too fatty and oily for my taste. Of course, some traditional Chinese lamb kababs is always nice. Overall the food was average. I would highly recommend coming to this restaurant with a person who is familiar with their menu and know what their strong dishes are.

About the service. Some people may want to argue that this is a typical Chinese restaurant and one should expect poor service. Whilst that can be true for most Chinese restaurant, the service should also be reflected in their price. I found that they were slightly more expensive and just too understaffed. Think I'd rather find something in Chinatown or try a new restaurant before I come back.

This is probably the fifth time I've been to Chang's Noodles - a South Western Chinese restaurant greatly touted within the community. Being Sichuan cuisine, you'll be recommended to try anything with added spice which the staff will be only too happy to help you make your decision. The food is authentic and this restaurant is probably one of two restaurants I'd recommend going for Authentic Chinese cuisine - the other one being My Old Place (Lao Di Fang or 老地方). I think I prefer the latter by a mile but that's all preference.

In contrast, Chang's Noodles is highly noted for their fresh noodles, which I attest to. Coming to this place without ordering noodles is like going to McDonalds without ordering fries. I'd recommend their home signature dish, "Lamb Noodles" (ask for it) which is made by thicker noodles than your average Ho Fun (河粉). They have a great selection of noodles and side dishes all at very cheap prices for a filling meal. A typical bowl of noodles will set you back £6.50 (there is added service charge I should mention), which is cooked in good time. You should also try the lamb skewers if you have a chance to, this is a must try for local cuisine.

There are more private seating areas downstairs so this restaurant is large enough to accommodate parties even if apparently full from the top floor. We waited approximately 10 minutes for a table of 9, which is fair. The service was brilliant although my particular party had private seating downstairs with a telephone operated assistance.

Overall, a great treat to eat.

FYI: The ATM directly outside will charge you for getting out cash.

Authentic northern Chinese cuisine delivered at a great price.

Service and decor are thin but the food is delicious and portions are generous. I would definitely recommend for a casual bite!
